2009 is the International Year of
Astronomy, celebrating 400 years of the telescope, encouraging everyone to
get involved in astronomy and finding out more about the Universe.
Events are being held all around the world throughout
2009 to allow people to hear astronomers talk about the night sky, look
through telescopes, and ask those questions they’ve always wanted to,
but didn’t know who to ask...
Lancaster and Morecambe Astronomical
Society (LaMAS), in conjunction with the Maritime Museum on St Georges Quay,
Lancaster, are holding a series of sessions introducing astronomy to the
general public.
There will be presentations, activities,
displays and the opportunity to talk to amateur astronomers about the night
sky. An Astronomical Quiz will help both kids and adults learn more about the
universe and maybe even win a prize !
The sessions are :
Friday 15th May 2009 19:30
– 21:00
Saturday 23rd May 2009
11:30 - 17:00
Both sessions will be held in the Maritime Museum,
St Georges Quay, Lancaster and are free !!
