Epsilon Aurigae Light Curve 2009 - 2011

This light curve has been generated from members’ measurements (visual, binoculars and photographic) of the brightness of Epsilon Aurigae over 2009 - 2010.

It’s difficult to say exactly when the eclipse started from this data, as there were no observations during the summer period. However, it is clear that the eclipse had started between August and October 2009.

From this data it looks like the eclipse became total in the last week in January2010 at magnitude 3.8 – 3.9. Some brightening seems apparent in the late summer/ early autumn with readings at around mag 3.5 – 3.7. The most recent data (May 2011) indicates that the eclipse is now almost over, the apparent brightness returning to mag 3.2.
